Nov. 12, 2004

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State pressured Alaska Fairbanks throughout the first period of Friday's Central Collegiate Hockey Association game and finally opened the scoring on Bo Cheesman's goal at 17:05 of the opening period.

The Lakers (2-5 overall, 2-3 CCHA) didn't let up in the second period either, getting goals from Trent Campbell, Jeff Rainville and Nathan Ward during the first five minutes of the period. They built a 4-0 lead before giving up a power-play goal, but went on to win 6-2.

LSSU's Jon Booras and Rainville put the game out of reach by adding goals at 5:01 and 9:52 of the third period.

Dominic Osman, Matt Restoule, Ren Fauci, Kory Scoran, Campbell, Rainville, John Nogatch and Steve McJannet drew assists for the Lakers. Fauci was back in the lineup for the first time since the season opener against Toronto. He missed six games due to a knee injury.

LSSU out-shot UAF 35-33 and finished 2-for-5 on the power play. The Nanooks (4-3 overall, 3-2 CCHA) were 1-for-6 with the man advantage and totaled nine penalties for 45 minutes (three misconduct penalties).

LSSU senior goaltender Matt Violin totaled 31 saves in his first start of the season. Wylie Rogers had 19 saves before leaving the game at 4:40 of the second period. Keith Bartusch totaled 10 saves. Both UAF goalies gave up three goals.

The Lakers, who are celebrating parent's weekend, take on the Nanooks at 7 p.m. Saturday at Taffy Abel Arena.
