Dec. 9, 2005

BEMIDJI, Minn. - Senior forward Mike Adamek made the most of his first outing of the season by scoring the game-winning goal in the Lake Superior State hockey team's 2-1 non-conference victory over 17th-ranked Bemidji State.

LSSU (9-5-3) played its first game in BSU's John Glas Fieldhouse since the 1974 NAIA National Tournament. The Lakers improved to 5-3-1 against nationally-ranked opponents. The Beavers dropped to 9-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 against Central Collegiate Hockey Association teams.

Game 2 of the series will be played at 7:05 p.m. CST on Saturday and will decide the newly-established Mason-Peters Cup.

LSSU and BSU were scoreless after the first two periods as the Lakers held a 16-13 edge in shots.

Laker freshman defenseman Marty Gurnoe gave LSSU a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 7:40 of the third period. Trent Campbell drew the only assist.

The Beavers' Rob Sirianni tied it 1-1 at 12:41 with a power-play goal.

Adamek scored the even-strength game-winner at 14:19 on an assist from Josh Sim.

Winning goaltender Jeff Jakaitis totaled 25 saves, including 13 in the third period. BSU goalie Matt Climie totaled 21 saves.
