UNO retaliates in Game 2

Dec. 11, 2004

OMAHA, Neb. - Nebraska-Omaha avenged Thursday's 5-2 loss to Lake Superior State with a 5-1 victory in a Central College Hockey Association game played Saturday at the Qwest Center.

UNO (8-7-1 overall, 6-7-1 CCHA) broke open a scoreless contest with power-play goals by Joe Grimaldi and Bryan Marshall at 10:50 and 19:00, respectively, of the second period.

The Mavericks made it 3-0 when Grimaldi scored his second goal of the game at 5:46 of the third period. Grimaldi also had an assist to finish with three points for the night.

LSSU's Alex Dunn, who had a goal and two assists on Thursday, ruined goaltender Chris Holt's shutout with an unassisted short-handed goal at 11:36 of the third period. It was the Lakers' second short-handed goal of the series.

UNO put the game out of reach by scoring two empty-net goals during the final six minutes.

Holt finished with 25 saves, while LSSU goaltender Jeff Jakaitis stopped 26 shots.

The Lakers were 0-for-2 on the power play. UNO finished 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

LSSU wraps up the first half of the season with a non-conference series Dec. 18-19 at St. Lawrence.
