Dec. 15, 2003

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State senior forward Tim Krueckl was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week after totaling two goals and three assists in last weekend's home series against Alaska Fairbanks.

Krueckl, a transfer from Iona College, which dropped its hockey program at the end of last season, had two goals and two assists in Friday's 7-2 victory over UAF. The win allowed LSSU to surpass last season's conference points total. It was also the first four-point game for a Laker player since Aaron Davis had two goals and two assists against the Nanooks on Dec. 9, 2000.

Krueckl, a 6-3, 205-pounder from Claresholm, Alb., is tied for fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and five assists. Last season, he was Iona's No. 2 scorer.

NMU senior goaltender Craig Kowalski was named defensive player of the week for the second straight week. He stopped 65-of-68 shots (.956) in a win and a tie against Michigan Tech. Bowling Green defenseman Jonathan Sigalet was named rookie of the week after notching a goal and two assists in the Falcons' 5-1 non-conference win over Findlay.
