St. Lawrence beats the Lakers 2-1

CANTON, N.Y.--The Lake Superior State hockey team fell to St. Lawrence Saturday night 2-1 in non-conference action. The Lakers move to 6-10-1 overall, and 5-6-1 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action.

The Lakers and the Saints skated to a scoreless first period despite the Saints having four power play opportunities. St. Lawrence did not receive any penalties in the period.

Laker forward Jon Booras gave Lake Superior a 1-0 lead 5:41 into the second period. His seventh goal of the season was assisted by Matt Restoule.

The Laker lead was short lived when the Saints' Mike Zbriger scored two minutes later to tie the game.

With two minutes left in the second period, Laker defenseman Ryan Reid took a hooking penalty and then received a 10 minute misconduct penalty leaving the Lakers to play with only seven defensemen for eight minutes into the third period.

Jim Hakewell scored the game winning goal for St. Lawrence 9:25 into the third period.

Laker goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 37 and the Saints' Mike McKenna made 27.

Lake Superior was 0-3 on the power play and St. Lawrence was 0-6.

The Lakers and Saints will meet again Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Appleton ice arena.
