Lakers shutout Lakehead 4-0

THUNDER BAY, Ont.--The Lake Superior State University hockey team shutout Lakehead 4-0 on Wednesday night in game one of the TBAY TEL Varsity Cup. Jeff Jakaitis recorded the exhibition game shutout by stopping all 37 of Lakehead's shots.

Freshman Josh Sim started the scoring run for the Lakers at 9:55 of the second period. Troy Schwab and Kory Scoran assisted on the goal.

Jeff Rainville scored five seconds later. Rainville's goal was unassisted.

Laker Dan Eves scored unassisted at 16:19 of the second period on the power play.

Eves scored his second goal of the evening at 8:40 of the third period. Trent Campbell assisted on the goal.

Lake Superior (10-6-4 overall, 6-6-2 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) out shot Lakehead 43-37.

LSSU was 1-4 on the power play. Lakehead was 0-5.

Jakaitis was named the game's first star. Eves earned second star honors.

Lake Superior State plays Calgary at 4 p.m. Thursday in Thunder Bay, Ont.
