April 20, 2006 MIDLAND - Lake Superior State senior Ludovic Marmet-Demers and sophomore Simon Pierre Caron were named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team after leading LSSU to a fourth-place finish in the league.
Marmet-Demers, of Levis, Que., finished 6-9 at No. 1 singles and was 7-9 at No. 1 doubles during the season. He and Caron were 5-5 when playing doubles together. Caron, of Cap-Rouge, Que., was 8-5 in singles, playing most of the season at the No. 3 position. Senior Tomoyuki Fukushima of Hama-Hyogo, Japan, earned second-team recognition after finishing 7-6 at No. 2 singles and 8-8 in doubles. He was 5-3 when paired with Simon Laliberte` at No. 3 doubles.
Laliberte`, a sophomore from Beauport, Que., was 3-4 in singles and 7-8 in doubles. He received All-GLIAC Honorable Mention.
The Lakers (8-8) expect to earn their second NCAA Tournament bid in three years after remaining among the top eight in the NCAA Great Lakes Region rankings. Mariano Fava of Mercyhurst was named GLIAC Player of the Year, while Ferris State's Brenton Bacon was named Rookie of the Year. Northwood's Zane Colestock was named Coach of the Year. |
