Jamie Pewinski

Player Profile

Hometown:
Rochester, Mich.

Last College:
M.B.A. LSSU '02

Position:
Head Coach

Alma Mater:
Saginaw Valley State '99

After spending seven seasons assisting Kris Dunbar at Lake Superior State, Jamie Pewinski took over as the head coach of the LSSU women's basketball team in March, 2006.

Pewinski has played a major role in the Lakers' recent success. Dunbar has a career record of 152-70, including a 140-55 mark since Pewinski has been a part of the coaching staff. During their era together, the Lakers have won four GLIAC North Division titles and two GLIAC Tournament titles, and they have made one NCAA Elite Eight Appearance.

"I'm extremely thrilled for Jamie," said Dunbar, who is now LSSU's director of athletics. "She deserves the head coaching job. I'm excited that she has the opportunity to be the head coach, and I still get to stay here. She's ready. She's proven herself over and over again in the situations that we've had. She's taken over in games, drawn out plays. She gives me so much information. There's no doubt in my mind that she's ready to take over this program."

Pewinski is a 1999 graduate of Saginaw Valley State University and earned a master's degree in business administration from LSSU in 2002.

"In my heart, I knew I wanted to stay here," Pewinski said. "With Kris being so young and early in her career, I didn't know if that was always an option. But there's probably less than a handful of times that I seriously looked at going somewhere else. I knew I wanted to stay here, obviously because of the tradition and the fact that we are successful. The league we play in is second to none. I like the town and the support from the community, and even the faculty and staff. We've built a reputation during these seven years. I've been here throughout that time and feel more vested than if I had come in two years ago."

Pewinski, a former Oakland University and Saginaw Valley State University player, is familiar with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and its member teams. At SVSU, Pewinski set the school record for single-season three-point field goal percentage at 43.6(48-110). During her senior season, SVSU recorded a 21-7 record. Pewinski also played three seasons at Oakland, where the team recorded a 90-27 record during her tenure at OU.
