SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team, fresh off of back-to-back wins, wraps up a five-game homestand Friday with a non-conference game against Central State. Game time for Friday's contest at Bud Cooper Gymnasium has been changed to 6 p.m. Although no radio coverage will be available, a pay-per-view video feed is available on the B2 Network. Visit www.lssulakers.com for B2 access. LSSU Food Services is also offering a meal deal for fans. A hotdog and pop combo can be purchased for $2. The LSSU men are 2-7 after beating Mercyhurst 80-59 on Dec. 8 and Ferris State 85-79 on Dec. 15. The Lakers split with the Bulldogs last season, but beat them at home for the first time since Jan. 25, 2003. Junior guard Tim VanOudheusden averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game to lead the Lakers in those two contests. Junior guard Mark Morse contributed 13.5 ppg and 4.0 assists per game as five Lakers scored nine or more points in both contests. Central State is 9-0 heading into Wednesday's game against Michigan-Dearborn. The Marauders have played one Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent, posting a 93-77 victory over Wayne State (7-2). The LSSU women's basketball team (3-6) plays at Minnesota-Duluth at 8 p.m. EST on Friday and travels to St. Cloud State for a 5 p.m. EST contest Saturday. The Lakers are playing UMD (2-9) for the first time since the 1991-92 season, which is when current LSSU Director of Athletics Kris Dunbar was a senior captain. Senior guard Shalyn Beauchamp leads the Lakers in scoring, averaging 12.2 ppg, while junior center Alyssa VanderWal is contributing a team-high 5.8 rpg. Junior forward Jackie Armstrong is averaging 10.8 ppg and 4.0 rpg, and hit season scoring highs in two of her last three games. |
