Assumption DPs cost Lakers

Lacey Knoop

March 5, 2008

OCOEE, Fla. - Assumption turned two double plays to silence Lake Superior State's mid-inning threats and beat LSSU 3-2 Tuesday.

The Lakers (2-6) also lost 4-0 to 13th-ranked Grand Valley State on Tuesday. They play Dowling at 9 a.m. and Mary at 11 a.m. today in Kissimmee, Fla.

Lacey Knoop was 1-for-3 at the plate and scored both runs for Lake Superior State. She scored her second run in the bottom of the third inning after Nichole Dunford and Katie Brandt hit back-to-back doubles. The threat ended with a 4-3-2 double play. Assumption, which avenged Monday's 7-5 loss to the Lakers, also turned a double play in the fourth inning.

April Brandt, Chelsea Maynard and Jennie Elliott also had hits for the Lakers. LSSU starting pitcher Stephanie Reveley took the loss, giving up three unearned runs on four hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Elliott, who relieved Reveley in the sixth inning, gave up one hit and struck out one batter.

Jessi Ordiway had LSSU's only hit against GVSU (5-1). Grand Valley State scored all four runs in the third inning. LSSU pitcher Nikki Christensen allowed four earned runs on six hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
