Laker softball team falls to GLVC powers

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Lake Superior State softball team lost to two Great Lakes Valley Conference powers on Friday, falling 6-2 to Northern Kentucky and losing 8-0 to eighth-ranked Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

NKU (13-6) scored one run in the second inning and four in the fifth to build a 5-0 lead over the Lakers (3-11). LSSU scored two runs in the seventh inning as Carrie Thompson, Amber Kern, Jessi Ordiway, April Brandt, Nicole Dunford and Lisa Dahm strung together hits. Dunford and Thompson were both 2-for-3 at the plate.

Dahm took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits and four strikeouts. Stephanie Reveley relieved Dahm with one out in the fifth and gave up one run on two hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

SIUE (13-3) pulled away from a 1-0 lead by rallying for three runs in the third inning and three in the fourth. Helena Zandarski was 2-for-3 to lead the Lakers, and Rachel Hall had LSSU's only other hit. Pitchers Nikki Christensen, Reveley and Dahm combined to take the loss.

The Lakers play Minnesota State-Moorehead and Southwest Minnesota State today.
