KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The University of Central Missouri swept Lake Superior State 8-0 and 2-1 in a softball double-header Sunday. The Lakers closed out their spring break trip with a 4-14 record. Junior Rachel Hall, who batted a team-leading .302 for the week, had LSSU's only hit in Game 1. Nikki Christensen, who pitched in 10 of the Lakers' 18 games, went the distance and gave up five earned runs on eight hits, five strikeouts and two walks. Christensen totaled 35 strikeouts in 54 innings of work. UCM (6-7) scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to come from behind and win the nightcap. Hall scored LSSU's lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a hit by Nichole Dunford. Hall was running for Lorrie Chaperon, who reached first base on an error. The Jennies scored two runs on two hits, one walk and two errors to win the game in the seventh inning. Losing pitcher Stephanie Reveley threw a solid two-hitter with two walks and three strikeouts. Dunford and April Brandt had LSSU's only hits. Other top hitters for LSSU during the week were Katie Brandt (.271) with a team-leading nine RBIs, Dunford (.250) and pinch hitter Jessi Ordiway (.250). This weekend's games at the Milwaukee School of Engineering have been cancelled due to poor field conditions. |
