Lakers open GLIAC slate at SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER - Saginaw Valley State held Lake Superior State to two hits for the day and swept Saturday's softball double-header, 10-0 and 6-1.

The twinbill was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams. SVSU improved to 16-6 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC. The Lakers (4-16 overall, 0-2 GLIAC) play Sunday at Northwood.

SVSU pitcher Stacy Kraatz totaled seven strikeouts and threw a perfect game in the opener. LSSU starting pitcher Stephanie Reveley allowed 10 runs on five hits during the first two innings. Only three runs were earned.

Laker reliever Jennie Elliott had one strikeout and two walks during the final two innings.

Rachel Hall had a hit and scored LSSU's lone run in Game 2. Elliott, who was the starting pitcher, also contributed a hit. Cardinal pitcher Jade Fulton totaled 13 strikeouts.

Elliott allowed six earned runs on eight hits through 2.1 innings. Nikki Christensen pitched 4.2 shutout innings and totaled six strikeouts and no walks. SVSU homered twice for three RBIs.
