DETROIT - The Wayne State softball team remained undefeated in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after sweeping Lake Superior State, 3-1 and 9-3, Sunday at the WSU Softball Stadium. WSU (20-9 overall, 8-0 GLIAC) out-hit LSSU 7-1 and scored single runs in the first, second and third innings to win the opener. Jennie Elliott homered for the Lakers' only hit. LSSU pitcher Stephanie Reveley was solid in the complete-game loss, giving up three earned runs with three walks and one strikeout. Elliott hit a two-run homer in the nightcap, while Nichole Dunford was 2-for-3 with a double. Rachel Hall's lone hit was a triple, and Katie Brandt and Nikki Christensen had doubles. April Brandt and Erin Hulett added singles. Elliott cranked four home runs for the weekend. Christensen was the starting pitcher and gave up six earned runs through 5.2 innings of Game 2. She totaled three walks and one strikeout, and allowed six hits. Elliott took over in relief and gave up three earned runs on four hits. She had one walk and one strikeout. LSSU (6-20 overall, 2-6 GLIAC) plays April 12 at Gannon. |
