April 18, 2007 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University, which is ranked third in the Great Lakes Region, took both games of a make-up softball double-header on Wednesday, winning 6-0 and 4-2. The Lakers (6-26 overall, 1-11 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) are slated to play their first home games in Sault Ste. Marie beginning at 1 p.m. Friday against Hillsdale. They had to play their first four home games in Midland last weekend. AU pitcher Jaime Williams (21-7) threw five no-hit innings and earned the win in Game 1. LSSU's Helena Zandarski, Nicole Dunford and Lisa Dahm singled off reliever Karen Hotchkiss. LSSU pitcher Nikki Christensen gave up five earned runs on nine hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Williams also went the distance in Game 2. She gave up two runs on three hits, no walks and five strikeouts. Erin Hulett led LSSU with an RBI double, and Christensen and April Brandt added singles. Ashland out-hit LSSU, 10-3. Dahm was on the mound for the Lakers and struck out three batters. She allowed one walk. |
