April 23, 2007 SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State and Wayne State softball teams combined to slug out 10 home runs on Locey Field on Monday. Senior shortstop Erin Retherford had two homers including a grand slam to lead the Lakers, who lost the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference twinbill, 10-1 and 13-10. Retherford hit both home runs in Game 2 and totaled six RBIs. Lakers April Brandt and Nicole Dunford had one home run each. Sarah Berry and Lindsey Perry hit two home runs apiece for WSU (30-13 overall, 9-5 GLIAC). Lisa Seymour and Robyn Haig had one home run each. Haig's was a three-run game-winning homer in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 2. Lisa Dahm, who took the Game 1 loss, left the game in the sixth inning after getting hit by a line drive. She gave up six runs on eight hits, five walks and no strikeouts. Only four runs were earned. She returned to play defense in Game 2. Nikki Christensen went the distance in Game 2 and allowed 13 runs on 10 hits, three walks and two strikeouts. LSSU (6-30 overall, 1-15 GLIAC) plays host to Northwood at 3 p.m. Friday at Locey Field. |
