LSSU spring sport athletes earn all-academic honors

BAY CITY - Twenty-one Lake Superior State University student-athletes, including 15 from the outdoor track and field team, received Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic honors for the spring 2007 season.

Among the top student-athletes were redshirt freshman Katie Scott of the women's track and field team, who has a 3.802 grade point average while majoring in exercise science, sophomore softball player Rachel Hall, who has a 3.775 gpa while majoring in biology, and senior Ross Malatinsky of the men's track and field team, who has a 3.706 gpa while majoring in education.

Other LSSU softball players who earned all-academic honors were senior Erin Retherford (3.54, English/secondary education), juniors Sara Fox (3.45, chemistry), Jessi Ordiway (3.23, accounting) and Stephanie Reveley (3.18, athletic training), and sophomore Nikki Christensen (3.26, finance/economics).

Member of the Laker women's track and field team on the all-academic list also included senior Shelley Peterman (3.55, exercise science), junior Stephanie Riedel (3.51, environmental chemistry) and sophomore Jade Szubelak (3.59, communications).

The men's track and field representatives also included seniors Scott Hosie (3.02, exercise science), Evan Williams (3.65, mathematics/secondary education) and Chris Winkler (3.17, engineering), and juniors Luke Allen (3.58, political science), Andrew Benson (3.09, geology), Joe Feathers 3.58, fisheries/wildlife management), Emory Nelkie (3.16, geology), Jordan Romel (3.24, criminal justice), Adam Smith (3.31, engineering) and Tom Thornton (3.03, history).
