Twenty-five LSSU winter and spring sport athletes receive all-academic honors

SAULT STE. MARIE - Twenty-five spring sport athletes and 25 winter sport athletes from Lake Superior State earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic honors in 2008.

The top spring sport student-athletes included junior infielder Rachel Hall (3.797, biology), junior distance runner Luke Allen (3.777, political science) and sophomore sprinter Amanda Pieczynski (3.895, exercise science). Winter sport athletes who led academically were juniors centers Jaclyn Armstrong (3.947, exercise science) and Alyssa VanderWal (3.908, nursing), and senior distance runner Evan Williams (3.764, mathematics).

Other softball players receiving recognition were seniors April Brandt, Jessi Ordiway and Stephanie Reveley, junior Nikki Christensen and sophomore Lacey Knoop. Seniors Danielle Makins, Amanda Epolito and Shalyn Beauchamp earned all-academic honors for the women's basketball team, while sophomore Scott Perkins and redshirt freshman Matt Romatz made the list for the men's basketball team.

Men's track and field honorees also included seniors Andrew Benson, Jason Ferguson, Kevin Macomber, and Tom Thornton, juniors Ben Tarbutton, Jordan Romel and Dana Skytta, and sophomores Paul Davis and Jake Hoover.

The women's track and field all-academic included sophomores Katie Scott, Emily Bowen, Sarah Christilaw, Marissa Ingle, Ashley Quick, Alyse Smith, Courtney Smith and Jill Walton.
