Nikki Christensen

Oct. 13, 2007

WATERFORD - Junior Nikki Christensen was the winning pitcher of record in both games for the Lake Superior State softball team, which swept Oakland Community College 6-2 and 12-9 on Saturday.

With the wins, the Lakers finished 8-8 during their fall season.

Christensen was the starter and shut out OCC for four innings to earn the win in Game 1. LSSU led 4-0 when she was relieved by Sam Beaubien in the fifth inning. Lacey Knoop was 3-for-4 and Katie Brandt had a home run for the Laker offense, which totaled 11 hits in the game.

LSSU started a novice team in Game 2 and trailed 6-3 after two innings. Christensen took over on the mound in the fifth inning and gave up two runs. LSSU eventually took a 9-8 lead on a three-run homer by Erin Hulette. OCC tied it, 9-9, by scoring one run in the 6th.

After a scoreless seventh inning, Hulett scored the game-winning run on a passed ball. Christensen, who singled, and Jenny Elliott added insurance runs on doubles by Elliot and Brandt, respectively.

Elliott was 3-for-5 at the plate for the game. Knoop was 6-for-8 for the day.
