LaMothe is named GLIAC Player of the Week

BAY CITY - Lake Superior State junior Megan LaMothe was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women's tennis after going 4-0 during the Lakers' season-opening duals with Wayne State and Findlay.

LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) was 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 while paired with senior Alex Chiakmakis at No. 2 doubles. The highlight of her weekend was an 8-6 tie-breaker that led to a 9-8 doubles victory over Wayne State and gave the Lakers a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. She also came back from a first-set loss to win her singles match against the Warriors, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, and led the Lakers to a 6-3 team victory over previously undefeated WSU.

LaMothe also posted a 6-1, 6-0 singles win over Findlay. She and Chiakmakis won their doubles match 8-2, helping LSSU to a 9-0 victory over the Oilers.

LSSU competes at the ITA Regional in Midland beginning Friday.
