Oct. 28, 2006 MIDLAND - The Lake Superior State women's tennis team is 1-1 through the first two rounds of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, which began Friday. The Lakers (7-5 overall 5-4 GLIAC) were seeded fifth and opened the tournament with a 5-2 victory over No. 4 seed Mercyhurst (8-8 overall, 5-4 GLIAC). They lost 5-0 to undefeated Northwood (11-0 overall, 9-0 GLIAC) in the second round. The No. 1-seeded Timberwolves advanced to the championship round with the victory. LSSU will play in the third-place match at 10 a.m. Saturday.
LSSU 5, Mercyhurst 2 Doubles results: 1. Grondin-Adams (LS) def. Daly-Christine Mersch, 8-6; 2. LaMothe-Chiakmakis (LS) def. Mullane-Downing, 8-4; 3. Sutyak-McLean (MC) def. Pumford-Smith, 8-5.
Northwood 5, LSSU 0 Doubles results: 1. Neumann-Goncalves (NU) def. Grondin-Adams, 8-5; 2. Rossano-Roset (NU) def. LaMothe-Chiakmakis, 8-6; 3. Oliveira-Kromer (NU) def. Pumford-Smith, 8-1. |
