Lakers go to five games with Northwood

MIDLAND - Lake Superior State got off to a hot start against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball standout Northwood on Thursday, but the Timberwolves fought back from a two-game deficit to win in five sets, 19-30, 24-30, 30-18, 30-26, 15-13.

LSSU (4-8 overall, 1-2 GLIAC) totaled 17 kills and a .412 attack percentage in its first game of the match and won Game 2 despite totaling 10 attacking errors. The Lakers totaled an impressive 69 kills with five players finishing in double figures. Serving and receiving errors cost them down the stretch.

Ashley Wyers led LSSU in kills with 19 and had an attack rate of .238. Sara Hess and Ali Jones finished with 11 kills each, followed by Jamie Groos and Brishia Stroven with 10 each. Hess had the team's highest individual attack percentage of .292.

Setter Erin McLain totaled 57 assists, while Jessica Ewer led in digs with 26. Stroven added 19 digs, followed by Trishia Dutton with 17.

Northwood improved to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in GLIAC play.

The Lakers play at 7 p.m. Friday at Saginaw Valley State.
