Lakers drop four-game set at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Ferris State rallied back from a first-set loss to defeat Lake Superior State, 26-30, 30-22, 30-26, 30-20, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match on Friday.

LSSU dropped to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in the GLIAC, while Ferris State improved to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.

The differences in the match were the Bulldogs' better attacking percentage and blocking. They totaled 66 kills and a .271 attack rate, while the Lakers turned in 48 kills and a .131 attack rate. FSU also totaled nine team blocks to LSSU's zero. LSSU took advantage of Ferris State's 25 service errors.

Jamie Groos led the Lakers with 14 kills and 11 digs, while Brishia Stroven had 12 kills and Sara Hess added eight. Libero Jessica Ewer totaled 21 digs, and setters Erin McLain and Ashley Purvis had 17 and eight assists, respectively.

LSSU plays its first home match at 7 p.m. on Sept. 21 against Gannon at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
