Sept. 17, 2006 SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State volleyball team returned home from a two-match road trip and began a three-match homestand against nationally-ranked opponents. No. 24-ranked Northern Michigan defeated LSSU, 30-24, 30-21, 30-14, on Sunday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. The Lakers (4-10 overall, 1-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) play host to Ferris State at 7 p.m. on Thursday, and take on defending national champion and No. 2-ranked Grand Valley State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24. Ferris State received honorable mention in last week's national poll. LSSU, which was held to a .083 attack percentage, was led by Brishia Stroven with 11 kills. Jessica Ewer led in digs with 16, followed by Trisha Dutton with 12 and Stroven with nine. Jamie Groos led in blocks with one solo and three assists, while Erin McLain totaled 17 assists. NMU (12-2 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) totaled 56 kills and a .291 attack percentage. |
