Sept. 24, 2006 SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State volleyball team ended its three-match homestand with a 30-22, 30-23, 30-27 loss to defending national champion Grand Valley State on Sunday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. Despite the shutout loss, LSSU (4-12 overall, 1-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) held its own against the No. 2-ranked GVSU Lakers (14-1 overall, 7-0 GLIAC). LSSU held slim leads in all three sets, and Game 3 went to the wire. Ali Jones and Jamie Groos led LSSU in kills with six each, and Sara Hess and Ashley Wyers added five each. Setter Erin McLain totaled 23 assists, two aces and three kills. Jones totaled four aces for the match, while Jessica Ewer led in digs with 10. GVSU totaled a team attack percentage of .320 and held LSSU to .133. Both teams had five blocks. Lake Superior State plays Thursday at Wayne State. |
