SAULT STE. MARIE - Northern Michigan won three straight sets after Lake Superior State claimed a Game 1 thriller during a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball showdown on Tuesday at Bud Cooper Gym. The Wildcats (11-7 overall, 5-1 GLIAC) lost the first set, 29-31, but prevailed in the next three, 30-20, 30-23, 30-19. Ali Jones totaled four kills, and Sara Hess and Jamie Gross added three each as LSSU came from behind to win Game 1. Jones and Groos finished the match with 10 kills each, and Hess had nine. Groos also led in blocks with three solos. Erin McLain contributed 30 assists for the night. Jessica Ewer totaled 19 digs, and Kt Antler added 13. NMU totaled 62 kills to LSSU's 41 and took advantage of 11 service aces. LSSU (5-11 overall, 1-4 GLIAC) continues its homestand at 7 p.m. Friday against Northwood. |
