Lakers sweep Warriors

DETROIT - The Lake Superior State volleyball team totaled 19 kills in Game 1 to pull out a close win, then dominated Games 2 and 3 to post a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory Thursday at Wayne State.

With the 30-27, 30-21, 30-23 win, the Lakers snapped a five-match losing streak and improved to 5-12 overall, 2-6 in the GLIAC.

Ashley Wyers led LSSU with 14 kills, followed by Ali Jones with 10 and Jamie Groos with six. Groos also had two solo blocks. The Lakers had a team attack percentage of .241.

Erin McLain totaled 18 assists and three service aces, while Jones contributed eight assists. Jessica Ewer led in digs with 14, followed by Trisha Dutton with 12.

WSU dropped to 1-12 overall and 1-7 in league play.

The Lakers travel to Hillsdale on Friday.
