DETROIT - Sophomore Sara Hess totaled a career-high 18 kills and a .469 attack percentage for the Lake Superior State volleyball team during Sunday's 3-1 loss at Wayne State. Wayne State (8-10 overall, 3-7 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) defeated LSSU, 30-25, 30-24, 22-30, 30-20. Hess committed only three attack errors against 32 attempts for the match. Her kill total was the most by a Laker in a four-game match, and her attack percentage was the best by a Laker in a conference match. She also contributed eight digs, one solo block and two block assists. Jamie Groos had 12 kills, and Brishia Stroven added 10 for the Lakers (6-14 overall, 2-7 GLIAC). Setters Erin McLain and Ashley Purvis totaled 24 assists each. Four Laker players reached double figures in digs as LSSU had 82 team digs for its second-highest team total of the year and season best in a four-game match. Jessica Ewer led with 18, followed by Groos with 16, and Purvis and Holly Orban with 11 each. Middle hitter Samantha Gibbs totaled four blocks. LSSU's next match is Oct. 12 at Findlay. |
