SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State volleyball team lost a tight match with Saginaw Valley State on Friday, falling 32-30, 27-30, 30-26, 30-21 at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

The Lakers (5-21 overall, 2-15 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) close out their season with a home match at 1 p.m. Sunday against Northwood.

Ashley Wyers totaled 26 kills, and Erin McLain totaled 60 assists to lead LSSU, which posted a better attack percentage than the Cardinals (14-11 overall, 6-10 GLIAC) but struggled with receiving errors.

Jamie Groos added 13 kills for LSSU, followed by Ali Jones with 11 and Brishia Stroven with 10. Groos also had three solo blocks and one block assist.

Allison Schlinkert led SVSU with 22 kills.
