HOUGHTON - The Lake Superior State volleyball team began its Upper Peninsula road trip with a 30-22, 30-21, 30-28 loss to Michigan Tech on Friday.

MTU (9-16 overall, 7-11 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) totaled 57 kills to LSSU's 30 and compiled an impressive 14 team blocks to the Lakers' four.

LSSU (8-21 overall, 3-14 GLIAC) closes out its season with a 4 p.m. match Saturday at Northern Michigan.

Sara Hess and Ali Jones totaled six kills each for the Lakers. Jamie Groos led LSSU in digs with 15, followed by Jessica Ewer with 12 and Jones with 11. Setters Erin McLain and Ashley Purvis totaled 14 and 12 assists, respectively.
